Noohra Foundation

Noohra — the Aramaic word for light — is the perfect name for this work. A nonprofit, non-sectarian spiritual educational organization, the Noohra Foundation helps people of all faiths understand the Bible from its original Near Eastern Aramaic perspective, carrying the legacy of two of the most significant Aramaic scholars of our time.

Rebecca's Involvement

Board of Directors & Teaching Faculty

Not merely scholarship.
Inheritance.

Rebecca L. Johns serves as a teacher and board member of the Noohra Foundation — bringing not only scholarly commitment but living lineage, as a native Aramaic speaker and member of Rev. Dr. Lamsa's own family. For Rebecca, this is not merely scholarship. It is inheritance.

"The Aramaic language is not a dead language — it is a living frequency, a healing sound, a bridge between heaven and earth."

The Lineage
Rev. Dr. George M. Lamsa

Restorer of the Language

Rev. Dr. George M. Lamsa1890 – 1975

Born in the ancient mountains of Assyria, Rev. Dr. George M. Lamsa grew up speaking Aramaic as his mother tongue — the same language Jesus spoke. Over his lifetime, he produced the landmark translation of the Holy Bible from the Ancient Eastern Text, restoring meanings and correcting mistranslations that had confused scholars and believers for centuries. No Western translation can replicate what a native speaker brings — certain Aramaic idioms carry layers of meaning that simply do not transfer into Greek or English.

"The Bible is an Eastern book written by Easterners for Easterners, and must be understood from the Eastern perspective."

Rev. Dr. George M. Lamsa

The Bridge to Understanding

Rev. Dr. Rocco A. ErricoThe Living Voice

An ordained minister, international lecturer, and foremost biblical scholar working from the original Aramaic Peshitta texts, Rev. Dr. Errico studied directly under Rev. Dr. Lamsa for seven years — making him the primary torchbearer of this tradition. As founder of the Noohra Foundation, he has authored numerous books and continues to teach through the ongoing Wednesday evening webinar series.

This is generational, intentional legacy work — transmission from teacher to student, generation to generation. Lin Izenman, Foundation Administrator for nearly four decades, has been the steady hand keeping this work accessible. Together, this board represents something rare: a living institution built not on celebrity, but on consecrated continuity.

"Aramaic gives us the Semitic soul of the Scriptures. When we read the Bible through Aramaic eyes, we find a Jesus who is warm, compassionate, practical — and utterly alive."

Rev. Dr. Rocco A. Errico

Rev. Hanny Freiwat — Aramaic Biblical Lecturer

Vice President, Board of Directors

Rev. Hanny FreiwatTeaching Faculty

As Vice President of the Noohra Foundation Board and a key member of the teaching faculty, Rev. Hanny Freiwat brings both institutional leadership and living instruction to this tradition. A Palestinian-American and native Arabic speaker, he weaves the insights of his Near Eastern heritage with disciplined Aramaic scholarship to illuminate Jesus in the light of his own language and culture. He has studied for over 17 years with Rev. Dr. Errico — who studied with Rev. Dr. Lamsa — carrying forward a direct chain of transmission from the original Aramaic tradition.

Why This Work Is Unlike Any Other

No one else is doing this work in this way. The Aramaic Peshitta tradition, preserved through native speakers and passed through a direct chain of scholarship, carries depths that no Greek-based or Western translation can replicate.

"If we will truly transform lives by the renewing of mind, this message must get into the hands — and hearts — of as many people as it possibly can."
